ADOPTION PROCESS:
VSCR has put a lot of time, money and love into our rescues as well as a little piece of us, therefore, the adoption process is very strict as we settle for nothing less than the perfect home. An application must be completed in it's entirety and the final decision on the approval or denial of an application is ours.
In addition to completing an application, an e-mail or phone call makes us aware you are interested and can speed up the process.
We try to ensure that each cat is placed permanently although our adoption agreement states that we will always take our cats back. This is something we try to avoid due to the trauma it causes the cat. That is why we strive for the perfect home.
We have adult cats as well as kittens for adoption and we try to assist you in making the appropriate choice for adoption.
We prefer kittens to go in pairs since they are much happier with a friend, tend to get into less trouble and stay better adjusted rather than becoming aloof due to being alone.
If there is another cat in the house for companionship, we take that into consideration.
Sometimes cats or kittens have been together since birth and are so bonded that we cannot separate them and we would ask you to make another choice.
An adult cat (unless it has always been with a companion) is easier to place as a single cat. But bear in mind cats usually enjoy the company of another cat.
WHERE OUR CATS COME FROM:
Approximately 98% of our cats are rescued from the streets, from abusive situations and from abandonment.
On the rare occasion that we have the room to accept an owner surrender cat, there is a surrender fee as well as a requirement that all medical has been done to the cat and proof of same is given to us.
WHERE WE KEEP OUR CATS SINCE WE HAVE NO SHELTER:
This is one of our largest problems. Once the medical has been completed and a cat is ready for adoption we hope to show them in one of our cages in Petco.
But more times than not, we either don't have room in the store cages or the animal needs socialization or is too young to be shown. That is where foster homes come in.
A foster home will hold the cat and either let them grow up or socialize them (sometimes both) for an undetermined time. Usually our foster homes will not only give their time, but will also supply the food and litter for their "foster kits". If that is not feasible, we will supply it.
We are always looking for people who would like to foster for us. We also need people to bottle feed newborn kittens.
Remember, we cannot help these orphans without foster homes.
